A major new report from demographic scholars at the Institute for Family Studies (IFS) documents the profound wisdom in God’s first command to humanity. And it is indeed interesting that demographers are more likely than preachers and bible teachers today to inform us that God’s first command to humanity—to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth”—is 1) Still very much in effect, and 2) Being dangerously ignored. 

The academics authoring this new IFS report focus primarily on America’s cascading birth rate and explain the problem is so pronounced it threatens a “demographic dead end.” They explain that if current American fertility trends “continue and if births keep getting postponed later and later, population will peak in the mid-2050s and then go into relatively rapid decline.” The consequences will be that “the latter 21st century will see America in demographic—and therefore economic and political—retreat.” Demography is destiny.
