There is a devastating cultural crisis facing America today: fatherlessness. After reading Corey Brooks’ powerful opinion piece about why dads are not optional, I felt compelled to talk about the growing consequences of absent fathers and why so many children are paying the price emotionally, spiritually, academically, and socially.
Across America, millions of children are growing up without fathers in the home. In some communities, fatherlessness has become so common that people barely stop to question it anymore. But the consequences are impossible to ignore. We continue seeing unacceptable rates of crime, violence, depression, addiction, hopelessness, poverty, and broken families. Far too often, the common thread running through those tragedies is the absence of a father.
