“Obviously, being a single mother wasn’t my first choice,” my friend fumed as I dandled her baby daughter over lunch last month. “Obviously, I’d rather have a partner.”
The baby is less than a year old, bright-eyed and peaceful. Her mother, a gorgeous and accomplished writer, had her via in vitro fertilization and sperm donation after years of singlehood and unsuccessful relationships.
