President Trump is throwing his weight behind a congressional push to place a moratorium on state-level AI regulations, taking a stand against several prominent Republican governors who believe states need to be able to enforce guardrails around AI as the technology continues to make rapid gains.
Trump voiced support Tuesday for rolling back state-level regulations after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R., La.) told Punchbowl News earlier this week that lawmakers were discussing the possibility of attaching the AI regulatory moratorium onto the annual defense policy bill.
