On October 19, a panel of experts discussed a new report published by AEI, the Institute for Family Studies, and the Wheatley Institution on the direction of the American family after COVID-19.
AEI’s W. Bradford Wilcox and Lyman Stone and the Institute for Family Studies’ Wendy Wang highlighted original survey data suggesting that rifts in family formation practices across economic, religious, and political lines will likely deepen in the pandemic’s wake. Dr. Wilcox noted that a more “family-friendly” future in the United States will require leaders on the left to encourage greater motivation for family formation by advocating the virtues of strong family life and will require leaders on the right to embrace policies that help more Americans access the necessary means to build strong families.
